The Niles West band, orchestra and choir participated in Pasta and Pops on Saturday, May 9. The groups came together to perform and fundraise for the music department in a fun and welcoming environment, where everyone can hear music and eat pasta.
Each group played songs for the event, with some being easily recognizable. The orchestra played many songs, some of them being: “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Clarity” and “Star Wars.” Band and choir also had strong performances with band playing songs like “Fade of Gods,” “Germinate” and “Sparks.” The choir played “I Will Sing” and “Parting Glass.”
The orchestra did a combined piece with a group of guitarists titled “Solictado.” Senior Sarah Powell was excited about this like many other orchestra students.
“I think it was cool combining with them because us orchestra students have always seen this trio playing their guitars in the orchestra room and this combined piece with them was a great way to showcase the combined talent of the trio and all orchestra classes,” Powell said.
Junior Sol Davids loves Pasta and Pops and was proud of how the choir performed. He enjoyed being able to come together with the other groups and hear new music.
“I think the choir did great, it’s always awesome to see what the other groups are doing since we don’t rehearse at the same time,” Davids said. “Everything came together perfectly.
With Pasta and Pops being at the end of the year, there are always things that the graduating seniors will miss. Senior Max Evens felt this away after finishing the fundraiser for the last time.
“I’m probably going to miss being able to hang out with friends and listen to other performers,” Evens said.
Powell also finished her last Pasta and Pops and finished it on a strong note. She is pleased with her growth in leadership and happy with how she is exiting.
“My last time at pasta and pops was definitely the best year,” Powell said. “I feel most confident as a musician in my artistic expression and interpretation, and this year especially I’ve grown as a leader in the program.”
