Tying it up in the first quarter, Joey Pantazis scored the first touchdown for the game this past Friday, Oct. 14. The boys’ football team played hard and did not go down without a fight. They tried to finish off the game strong but became short.

“I honestly think we are going to blow New Trier out of the park, and I think they are gonna have to disband their team,” sophomore Dylan Krecker said before the game.

It was a good mindset going into the game, but they struggled to follow through. In the first quarter New Trier was able to score a touchdown, but then Joey Pantazis was able to get them back with a touchdown tying the game. New Trier came back with a lead of 23-7, but Pantazis once more was able to score towards the end of the third quarter. The Wolves had a score of 14 while New Trier had 23. At the end of the game, New Trier closed it off with a win and a final score of 34 to 14.

Head coach Nick Toresso shared his thoughts on the game and the outcome. “Like every game, we go into, I expected us to execute, play well, play together, and win the game. I think we played well at times but were inconsistent in our execution and missed some big opportunities to be successful. They executed and took advantage of our mistakes. It had everything to do with us, and nothing to do with New Trier. Our lack of experience showed at times” Toresso said.

The football team is extremely young with over 80% of the team being sophomores and juniors. However, the guys did not quit and they fought all four quarters.

“At the end of the day, we did not play well enough to win,” Toresso said.

Even though Toresso was upset about the loss against New trier, sophomore Christian Guzman was optimistic. “I think we could have done better as a whole, but it was one of our best games offensively. This week I think we have a really good shot of winning against Glenbrook North,” Guzman said.

Make sure to be at the next and last football game of the season on Oct. 21 because it is the last home game for the Wolves to show off their abilities.
