For many students, balancing school activities as well as social activities can be difficult, however, for senior Prisha Singh, it comes easily. Singh is involved in a multitude of activities and classes at school which has helped her grow and become her true self while at West.

“There also may seem to be no clear pattern in my extracurriculars, and that is because there isn’t. I enjoy variety and applying myself in new areas. In middle school, I didn’t participate in much outside of class, but the variety of clubs at Niles West has really helped me to explore passions I didn’t realize I had,” Singh said.

Singh’s involvement in different types of clubs gave her some idea of what she may want to major in in college, but her job this past summer really solidified her career choice. “I decided to pursue pre-med after I got a job at a local hospital [last] summer. I had the opportunity to shadow a gastroenterologist and observe procedures. At the same time, I was creating patient files, and comforting patients by providing them with blankets, food, or wheelchairs for their rides. It was really rewarding to see that a lot of my interests, like science and math, were applied daily in healthcare all while directly helping other people,” Singh said. Singh plans on staying in the Midwest for college, hopefully at a Big 10 school.

Along with keeping up with her high-level classes, Singh is president of Computer Science Honors Society and co-president of Model UN and UNICEF Club. Singh is also involved in West Helps Others (WHO) Club as a board member, and is also on the Math Team as an oralist.

Singh and fellow president Almeera Mushtaq have reshaped the Model UN curriculum since starting their presidency. “Working with Prisha as co-president for MUN came super naturally since we were both on the same wavelength when it came to our vision for the club. Together we prepare, present, and organize MUN meetings on a weekly basis,” Mushtaq said. Under Singh and Mushtaq’s leadership, the Niles West Model UN team won two awards at the Carl Sandburg conference- Outstanding and Honorable Mention.

Along with being one of the presidents of Model UN, Singh is also one of the presidents of UNICEF Club. “She’s super dependable, intelligent, and kind, and it serves her well in all aspects of her life. Prisha is a leader in our school community, a UNICEF co-president, where she serves as an example for us all and keeps the club running smoothly,” fellow co-president of UNICEF Lorraine McDonald said. McDonald and Singh’s involvement in UNICEF has allowed the club to run multiple fundraisers and raise awareness and funds for humanitarian aid.

Though she is heavily involved in school activities, Singh also understands the importance of having downtime to relax. Singh spends her free time watching Shark Tank, going on walks, or hanging out with friends.
