Arcus: Our varsity team looks great this year. We should do pretty well this year with seniors Jenny Marin, Kelly Sanks, Susan McNichols, Jessica Sutfin; junior Nicholle Fourkas; sophomore Valerie Fung; and freshman Catherine Steegmueller.
NWN: What are the teams’ goals this season?
Arcus: Our varsity team has set a goal of having each score we receive on beam and bars being over an 8.0 and at least three scores on vault and floor over an 8.8. With that, we should be able to win Conference.
NWN: Who are the key contributors on the team this year?
Arcus: Marin should be our top scorer on beam and vault. Also, Steegmueller should be our top score on bars and floor. Marin, Steegmueller, Fung, and Sanks should also do great for us, as they compete in all four events (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise).
NWN: What are the teams’ strengths and weaknesses?
Arcus: Last year we had three gymnasts make it into the Sectional meet. This year we would like to see Marin in the all-around (competing in all four events); Steegmueller in the all-around as well as on floor, bars, and beam; Fung in the all-around and on floor; Sanks in the all-around and on vault. If we accomplish all of this, we should be looking forward to having a great year.
