For many of Caesar’s fans, “Never Enoughcouldn’t have been released soon enough as Caesar’s last album, “Case Study 01, came out in 2019. However, this album was worth the wait.

Caesar is categorized as an R&B/Soul artist, and “Never Enough,” certainly satisfies all expectations associated with the genre. Throughout the entirety of the album, Caesar plays with a wide variety of vocal, instrumental and synth sounds, as well as a variety of different beats in order to texturize his music. Not only does this help to differentiate and distinguish each song on the album, but it also emphasizes Caesar’s storytelling and overall craft as an artist. In past albums, Caesar’s music focuses on themes of childhood, love, and philosophical thoughts. “Never Enough,” continues those same themes but with more of a nostalgic feel, giving the listener an opportunity to feel a transcendental experience. As a listener, you are given the chance to reflect on your own life and relate to the emotion Caesar vulnerably portrays.

For some listeners, this may cause a roller coaster of emotion, especially for those who may be in a transitional period of their life. Caesar’s theme of the album ties heavily into the five stages of grief. His song “Do You Really Like Me” represents denial “Unstoppable,” depicts anger, “Buyer’s Remorse,” shows signs of bargaining, “Always,” signifies depression, and “Let Me Go,” is the final piece of acceptance. Each one of these songs provides a different lens that ultimately leads to the idea of longing for the past and trying to closely hold onto previous experiences, people and memories for as long as possible. “Never Enough,” is a story of acceptance, personal growth and maturity. It provides the lesson that learning to accept the past and move onto a brighter future where love isn’t the fuel of madness, but rather the byproduct of learning from one’s mistakes.

Overall this album is definitely worth a listen. Whether you play it in order or you play it on shuffle, “Never Enough,” is perfect to set the ambiance for a late-night drive, a quick study session at home, or time to spend by yourself listening and calming the mind in an endless supply of angelic rhythm and blues.
