Opinion: Winter Is the Best Season
Apr 19, 2023
Living in Chicago is great because it offers all four seasons, whether or not it’s a little extreme we get in our hot summers, or the cool of spring and fall and our notorious, frigid winters. Out of all of them, winter hands down has to be the best.
I don’t know how people choose summer over winter, it’s like they would rather be hot than cold. Just think about it, if you get too hot there is only so much you could do to cool down. Only sitting in front of a fan or cooping up inside where there is air conditioning. However, if you get too cold there are plenty of solutions, like drinking warm hot chocolate or getting cozy under severe blankets.
Also, what does summer have that winter doesn’t? I admit summer is fun there is no school and everyone is out and about, but winter offers so much more.
Does summer offer any exciting holidays? The only fun holiday in summer, in my opinion, is the 4th of July, but that’s it. On the other hand, winter holds Christmas and New Year’s. I don’t know about you but I would rather it be Christmas time when everyone is jolly, rather than the 4th of July.
There are so many fun activities during winter: sledding, snowball fights, gingerbread houses, ice skating and many more. While the only thing that comes to mind to do during summer is probably the beach or pool where you get all pruney, and let’s be honest how many times can you go to the beach before it gets boring?
Also, the food selection during winter is the best. Warm hot chocolate after a long day in the snow has got to be one of the best things. Or when you come home all chilly, mac and cheese is the perfect food to warm you up.
The worst thing about summer is the bugs. They are gross and make me hate summer. They are everywhere, I don’t think you could spend a night outside without getting eaten up by mosquitos. Or if you leave the door open, the number of bugs that will find your way into your house is crazy!
Also, I’ll admit we are in the middle of a school year during winter, but after winter break we get a new start at a new semester. Instead of jumping into a new school year where you don’t know what your classes will hold, starting a new semester helps you figure out what you need to excel in to achieve your goals.
Overall, I must agree summer is all fun because you have almost no responsibilities and is just delightful. But if we are comparing the pros and cons, I would say the pros definitely outweigh the cons for winter.
