Boys Water Polo Celebrates Senior Night

May 1, 2023

The boys water polo season is coming to an end and the boys are ready to finish it off strong. This past Tuesday, April 25, the team hosted a senior night to honor the three seniors on the team, Logan Bobiles, Jack Maté and Alex Croitor. After their celebration, the boys took on the Loyola Ramblers in an epic game with a great comeback to bring home a win.

During the first two quarters, the Wolves were down to the Ramblers, but by the 2nd half, something had switched. The Wolves scored back-to-back points gaining back a lead and came back and eventually ended the match with sophomore Brayden Kuffel holding the ball as the buzzer went off, securing their win.

The boys fought hard for their comeback. They were fighting for each possession, stopped the ball for defense, and had many fast breaks during the offense, they overall persevered through it, according to head coach Timothy Fodor.

Fodor thinks that the motivation for the win was to honor the seniors, being it was senior night. “I think they were doing it for the seniors today. It was senior night they were all excited to celebrate the seniors and to be there for them,” Fodor said.

The seniors also worked very hard as well which made Fodor extremely proud of them, “The way they are leaders on this team and they took the game on themselves to step up and get us back for that comeback all by themselves,” Fodor said.

It was a tough game but many of them would now say this is one of their favorite memories this season.

“My best memory this season would have to be senior night because being able to win my last game in the west pool is a great way to leave Niles West,” Bobiles said.

This win did not just come out of the blue, the boys have been working hard at practice every day to improve on their weaknesses.

“The season has been great we started off kinda rough while we were learning how to play together but now we got that down and we’re seeing a lot of improvement,” Maté said.

Their season this year however was delightful for them, Bobiles sees his team as a second family and had a lot of fun this season.

Be sure to support the Wolves at their next game against Mount Prospect, and wish them the best luck as they end their season off strong!
