Recently growing popular for her sophomore album “Am I Okay?”, country artist Megan Moroney has begun her tour for the album. I attended her performance at the Pinnacle in Nashville, Tennessee on April 9. to a sold out audience, and she put on an outstanding concert.
Moroney only had one opener, Chase Mathew, who came out at around 8 p.m. His performance lasted around 45 minutes, and he was very interactive with the crowd. Being second row from the barricade, the volume was pretty loud and the microphones were clear.

At around 8:50, the lights dimmed, and a moon appeared on the screens. For nine minutes, the moon went through all phases, then right before 9 p.m, a video reel played to introduce Moroney. Moroney’s band came on stage before her, and once she came out, she performed “Man on the Moon.” She then continued with more songs from her album “Am I Okay?”: ‘Indifferent,’ ‘I Know You,’ ‘Noah,’ ‘Third Time’s a Charm’ and ‘No Caller ID.’
After finishing ‘No Caller ID’ Moroney continued with a couple of her older songs, ‘I’m Not Pretty’ and ‘Hair Salon.’ She then took a break to explain the meaning behind her next song, ‘Girl in the Mirror.’ Moroney followed with a couple more songs off of her debut album “Lucky.” Right before ‘Lucky,’ Moroney took a break to thank everyone again, then expressed her love for her debut album. Once she began to perform, neon images showed up on the screen, replicating those during her first tour.
After ‘Lucky,’ Moroney went backstage for a costume change, and during that there was a short karaoke version of a few old songs: ‘Kansas Anymore,’ ‘Mustang or Me,’ and ‘I Love Me’. I love that during her costume change they had an interactive moment so the audience didn’t grow bored.
The lights turned off after ‘I Love Me,’ karaoke, and Moroney came back on stage, but only the shadow of her dress was visible. She performed ‘Hell of a Show’ in the dark lighting, bringing in the raw emotion that comes from the song. Once the song finished, she climbed up and sat on one of the hearts above the stage to perform ’28th of June’ and part of ‘Aint Nothing ‘Bout You’. She then went to the center of the top stage and performed “Hope You’re Happy” and “Mama I Lied”.
Moroney stepped off the high mount to begin performing ‘Miss Universe,’ but halfway through the song, she paused to announce the “Miss Universe” of the night. During Nashville’s first show, she brought up a little girl onto the stage and gave her a sash reading “Miss AIO Nashville” and a bouquet of blue flowers. She asked her a question, then the little girl left the stage so Moroney could finish the song. I thought this moment was adorable and was such a cute way to involve her young fans.
Moroney had a short costume change and performed ‘Bless Your Heart’. After, Moroney plays a different surprise song each show based on what VIP voted for before the show began. For Nashville, she played ‘Wonder’. Moroney finished off the concert with ‘The Girls,’ ‘Tennessee Orange’, and ‘I’ll Be Fine’. During ‘I’ll Be Fine’, Moroney invited her band to come to the microphone and sing with her. I loved this moment because it felt so intimate and light-hearted.
After ‘I’ll Be Fine,’ Moroney left the stage, and everyone immediately called for her to play ‘Am I Okay?’ A few minutes passed, and Moroney came out with Matthew to “Am I Okay?” and ended with confetti dropping from the ceiling.
The concert ended at around 10:30, lasting an hour and a half. Overall, I loved Moroney’s concert and would definitely give it a 10/10. Both she and her opener were very punctual, the microphones were perfectly clear, and there was an evident amount of stage presence and talent in both Matthew and Moroney. I also loved that during each song, the screen in the back changes with colorful and creative images corresponding to the song. I hope to see Moroney again when she comes to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the concert was truly a memorable experience.
