Announced at the May 5 District 219 School Board meeting, Tom Moore will be resigning as superintendent in Jan. of 2027. According to D219 School Board President Amber Wood, current Deputy Superintendent Roszena Haskins will replace Moore as superintendent beginning in Jan. of 2027.
Wood and school Board member Ken Durr sent an email to D219 students and families announcing Moore’s retirement from D219.
“D219 Board members know that succession planning is most successful when we are able to grow leadership from within,” Wood and Durr said in the email. “Tom Moore brought that sense of forward thinking and planning when he came to D219 in 2022…Dr. Haskins will continue to work closely with him and our district leader during the summer and throughout the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year to support stability and sustained success of the district’s mission.”
Tom Moore made a statement about stepping down from his superintendent position at the school board meeting.
“I feel like it’s the right time for me and the district,” Moore said. “I’m done soon in a few months being superintendent, but I’m not done with the work. For me, this moment’s really about clarity. I won’t continue in the superintendent role beyond next year, but I’m not stepping away. If anything, I feel more deeply pulled towards education in this country.”
Moore also expressed faith in Haskins when speaking about her taking over the superintendent role.
“I could not be more excited for her and for all of you,” Moore said. “She brings clarity, integrity and a deep sense of purpose to this work, and I know that D219 is in the best possible hands and that the future is bright.”
Haskins has many plans for D219 and is excited to work with everyone. She hopes to make everyone in the district feel comfortable and welcome.
“My primary goal is to be the lead steward of our district’s five years strategic plan and just really reinforcing our commitment to equity, excellence and a sense of belonging for every student,” Haskins said. “The collaborative work that I get to do [with] our faculty, our students, our staff, our families and our community partners [is] what excites me most.”
Haskins is grateful for the ability to work with Moore for a significant amount of time. She’s honored to have worked with him as not only an employee, but also a friend.
“Superintendent Moore and I have worked together for almost 20 years,” Haskins said. “He is the greatest educational leader I’ve ever had the privilege to have as a supervisor, mentor, coach and I can say friend as well.”
