As the seasons change, fake spider webs and carved pumpkins are appearing on doorsteps, big sweaters and pumpkin spice lattes appear on student’s person, and fun-filled Halloween events are popping up all over. Here are some dates to keep in mind this month.


October 1: 9:40 Late Start

October 8: Indigenous Peoples Day – No School

October 10: PSAT/NMSQT Test Day for Sophomores and Juniors & Band Chamber Concert at 6:30 p.m.

October 12: Homecoming Assembly, Parade and Football Game vs. Niles North

October 13: Homecoming Dance

October 18, 19 & 20: Niles West Theatre’s “Diary of Anne Frank”

October 24: Fall Choral Concert 6:30 p.m.

October 25: 2:11 Early Release & Parent Teacher Conferences

October 26: Teachers Institute Day: No School

October 30: Fall Orchestra Concert


October 5 – 7: Old Orchard Mall Vendor & Craft Show

October 8: Devonshire County Fair

All Weekends: Scream Scene Haunted House at Oakton Pool

October 19: Forbidden Opera at the Holocaust Museum’s Goodman Auditorium


October 8: Columbus Day Parade on State Street

October 13-30: Boo at the Brookfield Zoo

October 19: German Oktoberfest at the German American Cultural Center

October 20: Arts in the Dark Parade on State Street

October 20: Spooky Pooch Parade at the Botanic Gardens
