For any movie fanatics looking for new films to watch, this upcoming year is definitely something to look forward to. 2021 left us with movies such as “Encanto” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” — let’s see what 2022 has in store for us.

1. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”

Marvel fans will be thrilled to hear about the amount of content they will be receiving this year — “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in particular has been long-awaited due to its change in style.

While Marvel superhero films are known to be action-packed with bits of humor spread throughout them, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is supposedly taking on more of a thriller theme, giving it a more chilling style compared to Doctor Strange’s debut film. Some fans are skeptical of this change, others are excited to have a change of pace — to anyone who is curious to see how Marvel will take on this new genre, make sure to keep an eye out.

2. “Avatar 2”

After the release of “Avatar” in 2009, hundreds of thousands of fans have been anticipating its sequel. The fascinating world of the Na’vi and how they interact with humans is extremely interesting, not to mention the romance between characters Jake Sully and Neytiri that captured the hearts of many viewers.

Those who have waited this long will be elated to hear “Avatar” is finally getting its sequel later on in 2022. Both Jake and Neytiri will make a reappearance, although the two will be tackling a new challenge — having a family. Although the plot may be a bit different from the first film, I am excited to see how Jake and Neytiri have grown and what twists the story will take.

3. “Uncharted”

Based on the hit game, “Uncharted” is sure to be an exciting watch, especially after seeing that fan-favorite actors such as Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will be starring in the film.

Fans who have already experienced the game are excited to see how it will be translated onto the big screen. There have been numerous attempts at making film adaptations, and personally, I am curious to see how good this one will turn out. Seeing Holland and Wahlberg in the cast gives me high hopes, though, so I know I will be looking forward to seeing this film. Its fast-paced plot is bound to keep viewers on the edges of their seats, whether they have seen “Uncharted” before or not.

4. “The Batman”

For the D.C. fans out there, this one will surely get your attention. Robert Pattinson will be starring as Batman in director Matt Reeves’s “The Batman.” Pattinson is most famously known for his role in “Twilight” and its succeeding movies as Edward Cullen, a love interest for the main character, Bella Swan.

When I saw the trailer for this movie, I was immediately a bit shocked — I never thought I would see Pattinson in such a role, but I am curious to see how he plays it out. Seeing that he is a pretty talented actor, I look forward to seeing this film and how he compares to the previous actors who have played Batman.

5. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”

Finally, another Marvel film has the audience at the edge of their seats. After the passing of Chadwick Boseman, known famously for his role as the Black Panther, fans have been wondering how Marvel would deal with the loss of the hero. It seems we will finally get an answer in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

As a fan of “Black Panther,” I sincerely hope Marvel does their best to make the new movie captivating, while still being respectful to Boseman and his work. To me, his mannerisms and acting are what made the first movie so impressive — he was able to portray a kind-hearted, strong hero while continuing to show his more family-orientated side to characters like his sister, Shuri, and his mother, Ramonda. Overall, though, I can’t wait to revisit Wakanda and see what Marvel has to offer.

2022 is packed with even more films to watch — these are just a few to keep an eye out for. If you are looking to have some entertaining films to watch, this year is the year for you!
