Senior Josh Chupich celebrates a win last year.

After three strong years at Niles West, senior Josh Chupich is ready to start his wrestling season off with a bang.”Last year I had the best record on varsity and I’m excited to continue that,” Chupich said. Ending the season on such a high note is an amazing accomplishment. Chupich feels more motivated than ever to continue his hot streak from last season into this season.

Along with being a strong athlete, Chupich is also a very motivational teammate. “Josh is a good teammate because he cares about his teammates and is very passionate about wrestling. He has a lot of pride and is a very competitive person by nature,” senior Alex De Los Reyes said. Being a competitive person in any sport is a great thing for the team and other athletes in the room. It motivates them to keep pace with each other and put their best foot forward.

“He’s a guy with a ton of energy and is always making people laugh. Just an all-around fun guy to be around. He wrestles like a madman and is very relentless so as his partner he pushes you a lot,” De Los Reyes said. Doing a sport in high school can truly improve your skills in your sport. Athletes start to build a family with their teammates and they go through the trials and tribulations of the whole season. In order to have someone that is non-stop relentless at reaching his goal is a great thing for the team. Having that same person also makes people laugh and enjoy their time with each other day in and day out.

Chupich’s high spirit sets him apart from the rest. “Josh’s enthusiasm definitely sets him apart from the crowd. His excitement for the sport, and life in general, spread to those around him. There is always a smile on his face and it’s hard to look at him without returning that smile,” assistant coach Kelley Latting said. Being able to have that effect on a whole team to where you can just put a smile on all your teammates’ and coaches’ faces is essential to having a family atmosphere.
As for Chupich, many can come watch him this season at the team’s first home wrestling meet on November 30th against Lane Tech. We wish nothing but the best for Chupich and the whole wrestling team for a successful season.
