Opinion: Songs That I Think Represent Spring

Apr 10, 2023

While writing this, I have to admit it was hard coming up with some songs that capture spring. When you listen to most songs they give a nice summer day or even night vibe; however, when it comes to spring, it is very hard finding songs that give you a calm yet upbeat feeling. Therefore, after a few days of searching, here are some songs that I believe represent spring.

1. Good Days- SZA

“Good Days” is the type of song you need to listen to when it is a nice spring day. The beat makes it feel as if you’re riding your bike on a warm day feeling the breeze past by you. When listening this song, my mood immediately lifts up. SZA’s voice is beautiful and the instrumentals are very peaceful and ethereal. Personally, I love the ending when it repeats the lyrics “always in my mind.” It brightens up my mood and just reminds me of the cheerfulness of spring.

2. Melting- Kali Uchis

Aside from SZA, Kali Uchis has a soft voice which really bring out the spring vibe. “Melting” is a very calming song that differs from summer songs because it isn’t chaotic, but it definitely has a warm and peaceful tune. Furthermore, Uchis’s voice like SZA’s is very soothing and it’s a perfect song to play when you are during your homework or just need background music.

3. Moonlight- Kali Uchis

“Moonlight” is a bit more of an upbeat song but not too much that it’s crazy. This song brings out the romantic vibes of spring given it’s about a lover. When listening to this song, I can imagine an afternoon drive with the sun on me. Unlike summer where it’s worry-free and a little bit of chaos arises, spring is a time where the weather is warmer, our spirits are lifted, and we have to still get our work done but in a peaceful way.

4. telepatía- Kali Uchis

If you haven’t noticed a pattern already, Uchis is the best person to listen to this spring. Telepatía is one of those songs that transforms your mood automatically. It’s super upbeat, and Uchis’s transition between Spanish and English makes the song even better. Her voice is soft yet has so much life to it. This being said, Uchis’s song is upbeat but it still has a calming tone to it. The beats aren’t overpowering or fast enough which, in my opinion, would turn this into a summer song.

Overall, I think what defines a song from summer and spring is the melody it carries. If a song goes kind of fast and is extremely upbeat, then it would qualify as a summer song. However, if a song is calm yet lively, then it is a spring song which is what all these songs mentioned above contain.
