Niles West’s Annual Hot Chocolate with the Principal Returns

Through December, Niles West will be hosting its annual Hot Chocolate with the Principal. Hot chocolate and various sweet treats will be available in the morning before class. This event allows students to relax and enjoy their morning over a sweet cup of hot chocolate and delicious desserts, giving them the right start to the day.

“I’m very excited [about the hot chocolate event]. It’s very exciting and fun and I’m sure the hot chocolate will be great and delicious… People will definitely go to school more if they hear about these events taking place,” freshman Allison Le said.

This event also allows for the students to connect with the principal and other faculty members in the morning, who are handing out the hot chocolate. Principal Jeremy Christian believes it’s important to show his face within the student body and get on a level with the students that is relatable and engaging with the students.

“I think I already have a great relationship with the students, we have an open door policy, but this is an opportunity where myself and the other administrative members can really show them how appreciative we are to them for them giving it their best every day,” Christian said.

There are many new changes and editions this year. The main one is the location change. Last year, the event was in the mornings in the cafeteria. Now, the location of this event will change from time to time. This is so that students who enter from many places in the building are still able to get their hot chocolate and have it waiting for them at the door. Some other notable changes are there are now donuts, cupcakes, candy canes, marshmallows and hot chocolate with milk. Even though there are many new changes this year, students still believe there are some changes to be made.

One change that I think they should have is Halal Marshmallows, they also should have whipped cream, they don’t have it this year but they did last year,” sophomore Alina Abdulsama said.

Overall, both students and staff seem very excited to have this special event back during the holidays to bring our community together and see all of our faces in the morning. The last date for this event in December is Friday, Dec. 15 in the main office entrance.
